Heartfelt Discipline Update

Heartfelt DisciplineBecause so many of you have asked, here’s the latest on Heartfelt Discipline. First, it’s not for lack of discipline that the reprint is still in limbo. It’s for lack of working hardware. Equipment problems delayed the high-speed scanning and text conversion by a month, but I’m told it will soon be fixed. However, soon does not apply to fixing (editing) the text and creating a new design and layout once I have the new files. That will take several weeks, but for those waiting I’m reasonably optimistic for an August/September release window. Just discipline your spirit for the final stretch (had to say that).

For those of you not familiar with Heartfelt Discipline, it is a fresh look at the topic of childhood discipline in the Bible–what we think God says, what he really says, and what he doesn’t say. It’s not what you think, and probably not what you’ve heard, but it’s full of grace and truth. You need to hear it, and your children need you to hear it. Heartfelt Discipline was originally published by WaterBrook Press (Random House) in 2003. The rights have reverted to me, so I am updating it for a new Whole Heart Press edition.

Thanks. I’m still patiently waiting for the OCR. About to send it to someone else so I can get the book done in July.

  4. Sam Pfaffly says:

Will the reprint be an exact reprint of the older version out? Or will there be any new/different information? Thanks!

    • wholeheart says:

It will be very close to the original, but revised and expanded. I’ll remove some material the editor wanted in, add some they wanted out, integrate some end notes into the text, and expand some content with new insights gained since 2003.

  5. Thank you for the update. My husband and I are anxiously awaiting the new version.

I am SO glad to hear this. My husband is a military chaplain and I spend a lot of time going over the truths in your book with young moms….I can think of several families I will give it to when it’s available – both American and Japanese.

  11. Will this book be available on the Kindle? I generally don’t purchase paper books at all anymore (excluding a select few) due to limited space. Thanks!

    • wholeheart says:

A new web/tech staff will help us with that as soon as he is settled in. The book will probably not be available in print before October 31, so the Kindle version will be after that.

  1. [...] There was a man in the online group I was part of who felt that he had found some really good things in the Bible about this topic, and he was going to write a book about it.  I think his name was Clay. . . and many years later I was excited when I realized that the man named “Clay” in the group was likely the same Clay Clarkson who wrote the wonderful book Heartfelt Discipline.  The book is out of print, but the last I heard was that a new version should come out by August/September.  It’s the first day of October, so hopefully it’ll be soon.  I’m really looking forward to it.  [...]
